For artists, it is always art show season

Since a major part of being an artist involves looking for ways to get art in front of people, exhibiting in art shows is indeed a 12-month affair for artists who are serious about their work.

This month there are two great local art shows which anyone who loves art should definitely make a special effort to attend: the Annual Junebug Festival in Ben Wheeler and the All American Art Show at Gallery 211 here in Athens.

The Junebug Festival is this Saturday, June 18, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. in Ben Wheeler, at The Forge. Tons of artists of all kinds (including me) are participating in this year’s Junebug. A whole line up of area bands, great food, a Farmer’s Market, and fun activities are also part of this fun event.

Though I’ve never been to a Junebug Festival before, judging from the excellent publicity and how many artists and vendors are coming, I’m thinking this is going to be a very special community gathering. Can’t wait to show at this.

The All American Art Show is next Saturday, June 25, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m, right here in Athens at Gallery 211 at 211 N. Palestine St. Expect lots of art work from a diverse group of talented local artists plus live music by Paula Lemmon.

My own Studio 219, just a few doors down from Gallery 211 on N. Palestine, will be specially open the evening of the All American Art Show opening in case you’d like to mosey on down the street to see what I’ve been up to lately.

Growing up in the 50s I had zero exposure to art. Don’t let that happen to you and your family. To be human is to create.
