Talking about Play 4Kay on KCKL

Friend of Henderson County Now Ed McCain was on KCKL this morning with Tim Howard to talk about Wednesday night’s Play 4Kay event at TVCC, and then the studio was visited by Berta Winn of Kevin Lilly’s McDonald’s.

TVCC is participating in the WBCA’s Play 4Kay initiative, which began as “Think Pink” in 2007. TVCC has designated the Wednesday, Feb. 17, game against Angelina College at Cardinal Gym as its Play 4Kay event. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

The initiative is named in memory of former North Carolina State head women’s basketball coach Kay Yow, who died after a third recurrence of breast cancer in January 2009. The movement continues to grow and change lives, especially during February.

Ed has put his own special twist on his fundraising efforts by auctioning off sports memorabilia, including an autographed Daryl “Moose” Johnston jersey that he has been displaying around town on a manikin he calls Giselle.

Edwards named Student-Athlete of the Month at TVCC

A leader on and off the court for the men’s basketball team at Trinity Valley Community College was named Student-Athlete of the Month on Monday.

Stephen Edwards, a 6-2 sophomore guard out of Muskogee, Okla., received the award at the first Cardinal Pride Luncheon of the 2016 spring semester at Hunan’s.

For a ninth straight year, Trinity Valley Community College is teaming up with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer.

Cardettes schedule middle school dance workshop

Trinity Valley Community College Cardettes will hold their annual Middle School Jazz Dance workshop Saturday, Feb. 27, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the Student Union Building ballroom on the Athens campus.

The workshop is geared toward dance, cheer and gymnastics and is open to dancers age 11 and up. Participants will learn the tricks and tools of the trade from current Cardettes and Assistant Cardette Choreographer Sarah Cadungug. Cost of the workshop is $20 and includes admission to the Cardinals basketball game at 4 p.m.

Trinity Valley Community College’s Beef Cattle Show Team brought home several awards in the Open Charolais division at the Fort Worth Stock Show, held January 30. The team won first place in the Senior Bull Calves class with TVCC UNLIMITED REWARD 1431 P, shown by Tanner Essary of Brownsboro.
