No. 4 TVCC to face No. 5 NW Mississippi in C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl

The fourth-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals have accepted an invitation to play in the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl in Copperas Cove on Saturday, Dec. 3.

The Southwest Junior College Football Conference champion Cardinals will face the No. 5-ranked and defending NJCAA champion Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers. Game time at Bulldawg Stadium is 11 a.m.

“We are looking forward to playing in the Heart of Texas Bowl again,” said TVCC athletic director/head football coach Brad Smiley, who was the SWJCFC Coach of the Year for the third time in four years. “We have had great experiences in Copperas Cove and we are excited to play a highly-ranked and very good Northwest Mississippi team there this year.”

Cardinals pick up wins at Lewis Orr Classic

The No. 3-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals were in top form over the weekend in the annual Lewis Orr Classic at Navarro College.

First-year head coach Guy Furr’s squad rolled to a pair of lopsided wins in the two-day event, scoring a 124-74 win against IQ Hoops and a 124-84 decision against Pro Vision.

The two wins improved the Cardinals to 4-1 on the year heading into the TVCC Classic Friday and Saturday at Cardinal Gym.

Bush named East Texas player of the week

Athens High School senior Noah Bush, who plays running back and linebacker for the varsity football team, received the American State Bank Player of the Week Award Thursday. It was presented in response to Bush’s stellar performance when the Hornets defeated Brownsboro Nov. 4 at home. His stats in that game: 22 carries for 166 yards, three touchdowns, 21 tackles, 1 quarterback sack and three quarterback pressures. “Noah well deserves this award,” said Head Football Coach Paul Essary. “He’s the prime example of a team player. His work ethic is unmatched, and you can count on him to do what needs to be done for the team.” Along with the trophy, Bush received a $2,500 college scholarship. (Toni Garrard Clay/AISD)

Eustace Cross Country to compete in state meet

The Eustace Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs cross country teams will compete in the state cross country meet Friday, November 12, in Round Rock.  The meet will take place at Old Settlers Park. The girls will run at 2:40, followed by the boys at 3:10.

Both teams earned berths in the state meet by performing well at Regional Championships October 29 in Grand Prairie. The girls finished first and the boys second.
