Obituary: Sidne Spencer

Spencer, SydneFuneral services for Sidne Spencer, 22, of Athens, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Athens with Bro. Mike Dean officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Sidne went to be with her Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with Fibrolamellar cancer on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.

Sidne Taylor Spencer was born May 14, 1993 the daughter of Stanley Spencer and Sharla Rachelle Lewis Spencer. She was a Real Estate Agent for Keller Williams in South Carolina after finishing College. She loved crafting, refinishing furniture, room design and vintage everything. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed running, participating in several 5K competitions including the Turkey Trot and the Color Run. Sidne loved spending time with her family, was a loving daughter, mate, sister, granddaughter, niece and cousin and will be missed by all her heart touched.

Obituary: Jean Massingill

Scan0007On the evening of Dec. 2, 2015, Jean Massingill better known to all that loved her as Granny Jean, passed away after a long illness with Alzheimer’s. Jean was born Jan. 11, 1931. She passed away at the age of 84 years old. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church of Tool, Texas.

Jean was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by all of us.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Willard Clayton Wood Sr. and Bernice Snowden Wood, sister, Sue Yakesch, brother, James Nelson Wood and Willard Clayton Wood Jr., brother in law, Freddy Yakesch, Billy Spivey and Billy Massingill.

Obituary: Doris Sue Gardenire

Screenshot 2015-12-02 at 6Funeral services for Doris Gardenhire, 78, of Athens, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Bro. Frank Upchurch officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Doris passed away on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015 in Athens.

Doris Sue Hardin Gardenhire was born Oct. 30, 1937 in Weatherford, Texas the daughter of James Roy Hardin and Lillian Irene Campbell Hardin. She was an active volunteer at ETMC Auxiliary and wrote a weekly report for the Athens Review. Doris loved playing piano, estate sales and being creative. Doris claims she wasn’t talented but if you have heard her play the piano, if you have one of her ceramic pieces or some Indian jewelry, if you have received one of her handmade cards you know otherwise. She was a teacher for over 30 years, teaching at Athens High School, Trinidad High School, Henderson County Junior College, and TVCC. Doris was an admirer of beautiful things such as Chihuly glass, Greek artifacts, Art, and the Piano. Thanks to her boys she was able to travel to Norway, Panama, New York, her favorite Hawaii and traveled to Greece on her own. Doris was a loving mother, and grandmother who will be missed by all she knew and loved.

Obituary: Laneta Faye McClain

McClainServices for Laneta Fay McClain are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015 at Eubank Cedar Creek Creek Memorial Chapel with Rev. Eston Williams and Mr. Dennis Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment followed the service at King Cemetery in Kemp.

Laneta was born on June 19, 1942 in Waco, Texas to parents Elliott Monroe Jones and Lasca Coker Jones and entered into eternal rest on Nov. 28, 2015 at the age of 73. Laneta graduated from Mexia High School in 1960. That summer she married Rance Stone Jr. and they had two children. She later married Joe McClain Sr. and in 1977 they moved to the Cedar Creek Lake area. In 1978, they opened McClain’s Restaurant in Seven Points, Texas and she was the owner/operator until just recently. Laneta was a very affectionate lady. She loved her family; especially her grandchildren and her customers at the restaurant. She held a special place in her heart for all her law enforcement customers and friends. Laneta will be missed tremendously by all those who loved and knew her.
