Funeral services for Helen Faye Godwin-Smith will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Erick Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Chapel Cemetery in Athens. Services are under the direction of the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Family of Athens.

Ms. Smith went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 7, 2016.

Helen Faye, 70, was born on November 10, 1945, daughter of Travis John Godwin and Norma Lee Gaston. For many years, she was the church secretary at Sonnyside Cumberland Presbyterian Churchin the Bethel community. She was a homemaker, a rancher’s wife, Sunday school teacher, and was very involved with the church. She also owned her own beauty shop in Bethel, Bethel Beauty Shop. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Funeral services for Royce Jones, 92, of Athens, will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016 at 5 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Br. James Townsend officiating. Visitation will be prior to service from 4-5 p.m.

Mr. Jones went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 in Forney, Texas.

Royce Albert Jones, son of Albert Montgomery Jones and Annie Tom Williams Jones, was born on June 29, 1924 in Boyce, TX. He was married to love of his life for 71 years, Bonnie Eileen McGhee Jones. Royce was a Broadcast Television Engineer for Channel 4 for 40 years, a Hamm Radio Operator for the Athens Amateur Radio Club W5UOB, and served in the United States Army Air Corps later known as the Air Force flying B-25 bombers.

Services for Xander Rebel Romero will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Steve Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Athens City Cemetery.

Xander passed away on Aug. 3, 2016. He was born on May 17, 2016, son of Roman Carlos Romero and Autumn Marie Kelly.

He leaves behind his parents, Roman Romero and Autumn Kelly of Athens; twin brother Tex Cole Kelly; paternal grandparents Roman Z. and Maria Romero of Palestine; maternal grandparents, Dana McCormick and Brandon Linder of Athens, and Jesse and Patricia Kelly of Brownsboro; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers will include Mason Ramsey, Cody Clary, Trey Browning, and Tristan Rogers.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Family.

James W. Fielden, longtime Athens Realtor and businessman died peacefully on August 3, 2016 in Athens at the age of 70.

James was born March 22, 1946 in Gilmer, Texas, graduated from Gilmer High School and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1968. He moved to Athens in 1969 and spent most of his life in the Athens area, the community he loved.

J.D. “Corky” Johnson Jr. was born on October 28,1958 to J.D. Johnson Sr. and Elva Lee Brown Johnson in Athens, Texas.

He was called home to be with the lord on July 30,2016.

He was a lifetime resident of Athens, Texas. He was a master electrician for over 30 years. He was sworn in to law enforcement in 1984.
