Obituary: Dorothy L. McGee

Funeral services for Dorothy L. McGee, 75, of Montalba are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Olin Boles officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.

Mrs. McGee went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 13, 2017 in Athens.

Dorothy Nell Loper McGee was born July 31, 1941 in Lyford, Texas the daughter of Robert Loper and Naomi Roper Loper. Dorothy married the love of her life, Richard Keith McGee on January 6, 1961. She joined ETMC of Athens as a Medical Staff Coordinator and served there for many years before retiring to her home in Montalba. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Athens, loved to sew, spent countless hours making her own clothes and enjoyed watching old Westerns. Her true love was spending time with her love Keith, her children and Meme especially loved her grandchildren. Grammy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend to many. God blessed her family with the most loving wife and mother anyone could ask for.

Obituary: Lee Roy Stecher

Lee Roy Stecher, longtime resident of Star Harbor, Malakoff, Texas, passed away on April 8, 2017. Lee Roy Stecher was born on February 11, 1926, in Cameron, Texas to Leo Stecher and Ottilie Marak Stecher. He graduated from Yoe High School in 1944, where he lettered on the Cameron Yoe football team. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater on the U.S.S. Mendocino. After World War II, he moved to Dallas and studied at Draughon’s Business College, where he learned the valuable skill of keeping financial books.

Obituary: Charlie Thomas Burnette

Charlie Thomas Burnette, 86, of Trinidad, passed away on April 8, 2017 in Dallas. He was born on July 29, 1930 to A.C. Burnette and Evelyn Averett Burnette in Salem, NC.

Charlie joined the US Navy on Aug 6, 1947. He spent four years in the Navy serving on the USS Pasadena, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, and China Service Medal.

Charlie was married to the love of his life and soul mate Lillian Gene Moore for 50 years before her passing. Together they raised three wonderful children.

Obituary: Jennifer Lee Pierce

Jennifer Lee Pierce, 45 of Larue, gained her wings on Thursday, April 6, 2017, in Tyler, Texas and is rejoicing with her beloved mother Janie. Jennifer was born December 27, 1971, in Athens, Texas and lived in Bradford for most of her life until the past 9 years where she lived in Larue with her husband JR Barber. She was the daughter of Roger Carl Pierce and the late Jane Ann Robison Pierce.

Jennifer is survived by her three children and six grandchildren, who all meant the world to her, she loved being a mother and a Mimi. Her children are Rachael Shelton and husband Jerry of Athens, Katy Knight of Athens, and Colton Knight of Athens. Grandchildren are Devin, Peyton, Branson, Lukas, Jayden and Kinsley all of Athens. Brothers are Brad Pierce and wife Jill of Louisiana and Josh Pierce of Athens. Several nieces and nephews, Jared, Laci, Trent, Emily, Braden and Bradley.

Jennifer loved to fish, work in her garden and spend time with her loved ones.

A memorial will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at 3:00 at Hannigan Smith Funeral home in Athens.

Obituary: Francis Donald Drake

Francis Donald Drake left this earthly life at the age of 83. We know that his belief in our Lord and Savior will place him in the presence of God for eternity. Francis was born February 21, 1932, in Owosso, Michigan to Harold and Florence (Brown) Drake. He married Martha “Jane” Seeger on June 20, 1953, and would have celebrated 64 years together this year.

Francis worked in the motor manufacturing business as sales and production control Manager and was a respected employee and stayed with the company as it changed names from Control, Redmond in Owosso, Michigan; Redmond, Singer and Franklin Electric in Jacksonville, Arkansas, and finally Franklin Electric in Bluffton, Indiana. He retired from Franklin Electric in 1991 after 42 years of cumulative, dedicated, service.
