Obituary: Davis Bradley January

Davis Bradley January, age 84, passed away on October 28, 2017 in Temple, Texas. He was born on November 28, 1932 in Athens to Derous January and Velma Stephens January.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; his brothers, Bobby January, Weldon January, Tommy January, and Jimmy January; one sister, Nevie Ann Hardcastle.

Mr. January served his country in the U.S. Marines in the Korean War. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader. He was very intelligent man, and a very generous man.

Survivors include his sister, Mary Shelby (Jan) Hardy; his nieces Lynn Haralson and husband Jim, and Teresa January; sisters-in-law, Ann January and Margaret January, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. October 31, 2017 at Payne Cemetery in Athens, with Bro. Tony Watson officiating. Autrys Carroll-Lehr was in charge of arrangements.

Obituary: Craig T. Rumar

Craig T. Rumar, 85, of Athens, passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 in Athens.

Craig Tennyson Rumar was born July 27, 1932 in San Francisco, California. He spent his career in the entertainment industry as a writer, producer, director and agent had a large career in the movie industry. He was a key player in the Rocky movie starring Sylvester Stallone, serving as his agent and bringing the writer/producers together to make the movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Voight and Peter Fonda were just some of Craig’s most notable clients. Rumar was responsible for bringing numerous movies to the big screen; many of which were filmed in Spain or Europe, movies such as Instant Justice and Escape From El Diablo. He was responsible for selling the script to One Flew Over the Coo Coo’s Nest and as a screenwriter has written over 27 screenplays. He has traveled much of his life, living in exotic places such as Spain, Germany, Sweden, Holland and his favorite; the south of France. His busy schedule and career aside Craig was a great family man who dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother Betty Budsworth Rumar.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Nancy Rumar of Athens; two children, Christopher Rumar of Henderson, Nevada, Bentley Rumar and husband Andrew Rogers of Seattle, Washington; one sister Joanna Sulivan of Durango, Colorado and four grandchildren, Sophia Rumar, Vivian Rumar, Madison Alberts and Carter Alberts

Arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Obituary: Bobbie Joan (Shotwell) Sanford

Bobbie Joan Shotwell Sanford was born June 19, 1936 in Mineola, Texas and passed away October 24, 2017 in Ferris, Texas.

Bobbie Joan loved spending time with her family. She was a proud and loyal, number one Texas Rangers fan that never missed a game. Bobbie Joan was a special lady and our beloved mother that will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Shotwell and husband, Milton Sanford, son, Dennis R. Shotwell.

Obituary: Susie Scott

Funeral services for Susie Scott, 53, of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Faith Church in Athens with Bro. Darren Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.

Susie passed away October 20, 2017.

Susie Marquez Scott was born April 28, 1964 the daughter of Manuel Costello Marquez and Agustina Cervantes Marquez. She was a member of the Faith Church and active in the Yada Yada Sisters Ladies group at the Church. Her life was centered around her family, especially her children and grandbabies. Known for her cooking and making salsa, Sunday’s were special with her around; watching her Dallas Cowboys. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and great aunt who will be missed by many.

Obituary: Danny Ray Petty

Funeral services for Danny Ray Petty, 62, of Athens are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Sand Springs Baptist Church in Athens with Bro. Erick Graham officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Eureka Cemetery near Mildred, Texas under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Danny Ray Petty gained his heavenly wings and went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2017.

He was born in Corsicana, Texas to Emmett Petty and Nettie Moseley Petty on January 19, 1955.
