Obituary: Carl Leland Loper

Carl Leland Loper, age 80, of Athens passed away on March 25, 2018. He was born on May 19, 1937, to Joe and Elsie Alexander Loper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 60 years, Nelda Jean Loper in November of 2017; his brothers, Joe Loper and Ray Loper.

Carl worked for many years in the maintenance department for Braniff Air Base. He loved mechanical things and “tinkering” with fixing things. He loved the outdoors, working with his cows, fishing, and camping. He was a dedicated member of Bethel Christian Church where he loved his church family. He loved his children and adored his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed, but the family knows that he is not hurting anymore, and he is with his sweet Nelda.

Obituary: Evelyn Thoes

Funeral services for Evelyn Thoes of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens. Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma.

Evelyn Thoes passed on March 19, 2018 in Tyler, Texas.

Evelyn Jean Johnson Thoes was born January 9, 1933 in Morris, Oklahoma the daughter of Charles W. Johnson and Stella Mae Copeland Johnson. She was a Methodist and enjoyed genealogy, photography and especially quilting. She was a member of the Quilters Guild of East Texas in Tyler and the Pea Pickers Square Dance Club, where she got to dance and travel with her love Ed for many years. Evelyn was passionate about her family. She loved to photograph family events, send cards and pictures, preserved family recipes, and created a quilt for each of her family members.

Obituary: Barbara Ann Stewart

Barbara Ann Stewart born October 4, 1938 entered God’s kingdom on March 19, 2018.

Surrounded by family, Barbara passed on after an illness. She lived and participated actively in the Texas communities of Dallas, Corpus Christi,
Bryan, Denton, as well as Westport, Connecticut. Barbara was born in Laredo, Texas to Clyde and Cynthia Hall Wharton. She attended Texas Women’s University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Therapy. She was a speech therapist and a teacher of the deaf. While living in Dallas, Barbara and her sister founded “The Professional Nanny of Dallas,” providing high quality childcare for working parents.

Marsha Diane Rogers passed away on March 14, 2018, born on December 11, 1959. Visitation will be Friday March 23, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at Autry’s Carroll Lehr Funeral Home and Funeral Service will be Saturday March 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

Obituary: Trent Parker

Trent Parker passed away March 16, 2018 in Tyler, Texas. He was born May 9, 1944 in Denver, Colorado to Tim and Delores (Dee) Parker. He was the oldest of their three children. Trent enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, playing guitar and most of all spending time with his family. He had a special place in his heart for animals, especially those who had been abused or abandoned. He was preceded in death by his father Tim, the love of his life, wife Jean and his step-son James Powell. He is survived by his mother, Delores (Dee) Parker, brother Chris Parker and wife Charlene and sister Judy Parker Bragg and husband Eddie. He leaves three grieving children, son Jason Parker and wife Emily, daughter Staci Parker Smith and son Jade Parker. He would tell you that he had the most amazing grandchildren and that he was beyond blessed with them. Grandchildren include Kenneth (Tyler) Parker, Madison Parker, Timothy Smith and Noah Parker. Trent has a very large family, but he was especially close to his cousin, Mary Parker Griggs, his cousin who helped him through the difficult time after Jean’s passing. His children will be forever grateful for your love and care. Special thank you to his friend, Peggy O’Rourke for all the trips to Dallas and adventures at Buccee’s, he really looked forward to yall’s adventures. Trent will be missed deeply by many, but he will never be forgotten. Until we meet again, we love you!

Services will be Wednesday March 21, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens Texas.
