Obituary: Olly Bass

Funeral services for Olly Bass, 97, of Athens are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Sand Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Erick Graham officiating. Interment will follow at Shelby Chapel Cemetery in Athens.

Olly G. Bass passed away on July 11, 2018 in Athens.

Olly Gude Bass Jr. was born October 9, 1920 in Athens, Texas the son of Olly G. Bass Sr. and Etta Hawkins Bass. He was a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church. Olly proudly served in the Army Air Corps from December 22, 1942 to March 8, 1946 and was honorably discharged as a SGT. He worked as a construction inspector for TX DOT for over 27 years, enjoyed farming (cattle) and gardening, especially growing tomatoes, corn, and peas. Grandad loved his children, grandchildren and will be missed by many.

Obituary: Billy Jean Featherston

Billy Jean Featherston (Ms. Jeanie), 83, of Brownsboro, entered eternal peace Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Chandler Nursing Home under the care of Hospice of East Texas following a long illness.

Ms. Jeannie was born March 21, 1935 in Sweetwater, Texas to parents Andrew and Lillie Burns Hector. Raised by her paternal grandparents Arden and Rhoda Hector, she attended Sweetwater schools, as well as attended high school in Odessa, TX.

Obituary: Bobby Teague

Bobby Teague age 84 passed away on July 8, 2018 in Athens, Texas. He was born on September 9, 1933 to Royce and Elna Teague in Bryans Mill, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his aunt, Louise McGee.

Coach Teague was the High School Principal in Brownsboro for many years. He loved his years at Brownsboro and served on the school board, he was looked up to and respected by his colleagues and students. Before going to Brownsboro, he coached football, and golf at area East Texas schools. He also taught woodworking. Bobby also owned his own airplane and enjoyed flying. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Brownsboro for many years.

Obituary: Stanley Weaver Burke

Stanley Weaver Burke entered his gateway to eternity on June 29, 2018.

Stanley was 79 years old, born on August 17, 1938, in Wharton County, Texas to Wendell Vernon Burke and Callie Joyce Weaver Burke. Stanley grew up in Brazoria, Texas and attended high school in West Columbia, Texas, graduating high school in 1956. Stanley worked as a welder and pipefitter his entire adult life and was a member of the Local 211-Union of Pipefitters and Plumbers. He retired in 2001. Stanley raised his family in Freeport, Texas. After he retired he moved to Athens, Texas where he raised chickens and grew vegetables in his garden. He was a member of Living for The Brand Cowboy Church in Athens, Texas and attended weekly meetings of the Bible Study International Fellowship. He was a faithful servant of the Children’s Church at the Living for the Brand Cowboy Church. Stanley had two loves, his God and his family.

Obituary: Joseph Grimland

Grimland, Joseph Rush Jr passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 26, 2018. Joe, “Little Joe”, was born in Big Spring, Texas, spent most of his childhood in Grand Prairie and raised his daughters with his beloved wife Nita in Plano, Texas. His final years were spent in Mabank, Texas with his adored wife Maria.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Joe Grimland, Sr and Jamie Meador Grimland, his wife of 39 years Anita Wishcamper Grimland, their first child Jason Rush Grimland and stepson Raul “R.J.” Roa.

He is survived by his much loved second wife Maria Grimland; daughters Kaley Grimland, Molly Grimland Smith; step-daughters Pamela Roa Hipp, Margo Roa; sons-in-law Edgar Mendoza, Hunter Smith and Aaron Hipp and seven beautiful grandchildren.
