Malakoff Elementary School earns all eligible distinctions

The Texas Education Agency released the 2015 public school accountability ratings last week. 

One district that scored very well in the ratings was Malakoff ISD, but even in that district one campus stood out: Malakoff Elementary School.

Malakoff 7-year-old advances to world mini bronc finals

Malakoff second grader Brant Cookston, 7, placed third in the semifinals for the Mini Bronc World Championship held Aug. 7 at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, CO.

Back in May, Brant won multiple buckles at the Lonestar High School Rodeo Finals.

Brant has now advanced to the World Mini Bronc Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada Dec. 4-6, to be held during the National Finals Rodeo. Continue reading “Malakoff 7-year-old advances to world mini bronc finals”

Black History Committee Car Show Winners

The Henderson County Black History Committee held its 4th Annual Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Show on Saturday, Aug. 1 at Malakoff High School. With the participation of 30 for the event, overall it was a success.

Around the Town: Trying to Help Don Work

I have an update for you on Don, our parolee friend who was released to my place in the country last November. Don had some pretty serious physical problems, including a tracheotomy and a stomach tube which were acquired due to cancer treatment he got in prison. Despite these handicaps, he was very eager—and able– to go to work and make something happen. He had the knowledge to set up a small sawmill which my friend Carl financed, and they had produced a few cedar chests. He had a small trailer to live in, and had started work on an apartment on the side of our workshop here so that he could work any time despite being on a monitor and severely restricted to his living quarters.
