Pedestrian hit by vehicle in Gun Barrel City

Wednesday night, June 15, Gun Barrel City Police Department Telecommunicator Carrie Burkhard received a 911 call about a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle. According to a car accident attorney the incident happened about 10:53 p.m. in the 850 block of SH 198, which is the bridge between Gun Barrel City and Payne Springs, lawyers from www.nj-legal.com were reached by the family to get a fair compensation of this tragedy.

Gun Barrel City will welcome Texas Turf Titans and Sod Slingers from far and wide as the Lone Star Mower Racing Association (LSMRA) hosts the STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series, June 11-12.

The Gun Barrel City Economic Development Corporation will welcome racers from the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA), the nation’s oldest and largest lawn mower racing sanctioning body, celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2017.

Traffic stop in GBC leads to drug arrest

On April 16 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Officer Roger Cullum initiated a traffic stop on a silver Chevrolet truck for a traffic infraction. Cullum made contact with the driver, who was identified as Bradley Lynn Blankenship, 56, who resides in Athens. During the contact Cullum detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Blankenship’s person. Blankenship admitted to drinking and was asked to step from the vehicle to determine if he was intoxicated. After doing so Cullum noticed Blankenship to have a black zipper case in his hand. Cullum inquired about the case and Blankenship fled on foot for a short distance before he was apprehended by Cullum. Upon examining the case Cullum located various items of drug paraphernalia and approximately 45 grams of methamphetamine.

Blankenship was then taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance pg-1 4g

Military News: Trever K. Killingsworth

U.S. Army National Guard Pvt. Trever K. Killingsworth has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Killingsworth is the son of Valerie and grandson of Louise Killingsworth of Gun Barrel City. He graduated in 2015 from Mabank High School.

ICC Residential Building Code seminar to be held in GBC

Gun Barrel City has contracted the International Code Council (ICC) to hold a one-day seminar to help those using the ICC Residential Building Code to transition from as far back as 2006 code to today’s 2015 code. This course is for those with intermediate level of building code knowledge. ICC will conduct the training and provide materials along with a PDF of the PowerPoint presentation. The charge for this seminar is $75 per person and must be paid prior to attending the training to guarantee a place in the class.

The date for this one-day event is March 31 in Gun Barrel City. The training will be held at the La Quinta Inn from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and early registration is required.
