Allison Hardin competed last weekend in Cypress for Athens High School at the Texas High School Triathlon Championships. Her AHS swim coach Caroline Maxvill took her. She placed 7th overall competing against 9-12th graders. It consisted of a 500 meter swim, 14 mile bike and 3 mile run. (COURTESY PHOTO)

Graduates honored at TVCC

Life is a journey that is traveled by all. With a few key tools, it can be traveled well.

That was the message keynote speaker Dr. Lamont Smith offered to the Trinity Valley Community College class of 2013 during last week’s commencement ceremonies.

“While traveling, just pull over to the rest area and take the time to study you. Get to know yourself,” he said. “Then, accept the challenge of being the best possible you.”

Area students celebrate at Whatz-Up

Kids Are Heroes Day

Fourth graders from Malakoff, Eustace and LaPoynor enjoyed an outing to Whatz-Up Family Fun Park in Seven Points today as part of the Child Abuse Awareness Month activities. The students participated in a poster contest. School from throughout the county were involved in the contest and invited to the event, but not all districts were able to attend today.
