2014 Accountability Ratings for School Districts

The Texas Education Agency released the 2014 Accountability Ratings for districts today. 

District’s received one of three ratings: Met Standard; Met Alternate Standard; or Improvement Required.

County to Receiving Grant Money for Roads

Commissioners’ Court took steps Tuesday morning to receive state grant money for roads.

According to officials, the county will be receiving about $346,000 from the County Transportation Infrastructure Fund Grant program.

The money was set aside by the State Legislature to help counties repair roads damaged by the heavy equipment of the oil and gas industry.

“This is the culmination of about six months worth of work,” said Pct. 2 Commissioner Wade McKinney.

Commissioners’ Court made a point of praising the work of Jessica Chapman from the auditor’s office, saying she was instrumental in the county receiving the grant.

County Employees Mourn Pam Green

Henderson County Commissioners’ Court opened on a somber note Tuesday morning with County Judge Richard Sanders announcing that Pam Green passed away Monday night.

Pam was a well-known employee in the county Elections and Voter Registration Office. She died after a sudden illness.

Man Arrested for Drug Charges, Stolen Truck

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of suspected theft and narcotic activity at a residence off FM 2636 in Malakoff. The HCSO Narcotics Unit and CID Investigators had been conducting surveillance on the residence related to the complaints. On Thursday, July 31, Investigators identified a 2009 white Chevrolet pick-up at the residence that had been reported stolen out of Hunt County. Surveillance continued until the vehicle left the residence in the early morning hours of August 1.

The vehicle was driven to SH 31 and began traveling east bound towards Athens as a number of surveillance units converged. Captain Bryan Tower and Deputy Kyle Pochobradsky initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle failed to yield and continued eastbound on SH 31 eventually pulling into the Pct. 5 Justice of the Peace parking lot where a black bag was thrown from the vehicle. Busy Day for HCSO

Thursday, Wednesday, July 30, was a very busy day for the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Two Arrested on Various Charges

On Wednesday, July 30, Henderson County Sheriff‘s Office Captain Bryan Tower received a call about two subjects in a white Crown Victoria who had entered a house off of FM 2494 near Athens without the consent of the owner. The two were surprised by contractors present in the residence. Several members of the Sheriff‘s Office attempted to locate the suspect vehicle and subjects. At approximately 2:10pm, HCSO Chief Deputy Dan Parker located a vehicle matching the description at a residence off SH 19 north of Athens.  Continue reading “Busy Day for HCSO”
