On July 18, the Rootseekers met at the Tri-County Library to hear Carolyn Bostain talk about the First Families of Henderson County, Texas. She is grateful to Sarah Ward Knight Owen’s Bible records that she kept so well and books such as “The History of Henderson County” and the David Allen Owen family for publishing their history.

Agape Knitters donate blankets to Kiwanis Club

Cowboy church donates to CCl Kiwanis

The Agape Knitters recently donated blankets they made to the Cedar Creek Kiwanis Club to use for an upcoming project.

The Agape Knitters welcomes anyone interested in knitting to join them each Thursday from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the Living For The Brand Cowboy Church. For more information on the group contact 903-675-9177.

Master Gardeners to host presentation on growing grapes

A free presentation on growing grapes in Texas will be hosted by the Henderson County Master Gardeners and presented by Dr. Justin Scheiner on Thursday, Aug. 18, from 6-7 p.m. at the Cedar Creek Library, 410 E Cedar Creek Parkway, Seven Points. Come learn about which grapes are best grown in our area.

Justin Scheiner received a B.S. in Horticulture and Crop Science from Sam Houston State University in 2005. In 2007, he received his M.S. in Molecular and Environmental Plant Sciences from Texas A&M University. Dr. Scheiner earned a Ph.D. in Horticulture from Cornell University in 2010. From 2010 to 2013 he served as the Director of the Viticulture and Enology Program at Grayson College. Dr. Scheiner joined the faculty of the Department of Horticultural Sciences at Texas A&M as an Assistant Professor and Extension Viticulture Specialist in 2013.

The Gun Barrel City Masonic Youth Rainbow Girls attended their state conference in Waco, Texas, June 23-26, where the girls not only had a cool time at Hawaiian Falls Water Park, but also were recognized for their many hours of service and much more.
