SHRED-911 Part of Clean Up Event

SHRED-911 2

KAB press release

Athens-based document destruction company SHRED-911 has teamed up with Keep Athens Beautiful to sponsor a free community shred event during the semiannual City Wide Cleanup at City of Athens Community Collection Center (500 Aaron Street).
The event will take place this Saturday, April 5, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Athens residents are encouraged to protect themselves from the growing threat of identity theft by destroying, rather than discarding, sensitive documents. Materials that can be brought to the shredder include old tax records, medical information, bills, and any confidential documents like unsolicited credit card applications.

Items that should not be brought to the shred event are large binders, newspapers, phone books, magazines or any non-paper item. All of the shredded materials will be destroyed by SHRED-911 at their local secure destruction facility and then recycled.

Please note that there is a limit of 50 pounds for this event. That equates to four or five grocery bags or two “banker’s box” sized boxes. There is no charge to consumers for destroying materials brought to the event. Businesses should contact SHRED- 911 for services.

SHRED-911, LLC is located on U.S. Highway 175 just East of the Loop in Athens. It provides secure document destruction services to business and individuals within a 30-mile radius around Athens, and may be reached by calling 888-350-7473 or visiting www.shred-911.com.

Keep Athens Beautiful partners with schools, businesses, community organizations and residents to promote beautifications, litter prevention and education. It is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteers dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and environment of the community. KAB may reach by calling 903-675-7961 or by visiting www.kabtx.org.

The Clothesline Project

April is Child Abuse Awareness and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Tuesday saw the annual proclamations read at the courthouse.

The event also includes the annual display of the Clothesline Project, 179 t-shirts made by abuse survivors or their families.

We will be posting about these issues throughout the month, but we thought a good way to start was by showing you the Clothesline Project. When you watch, each color of t-shirt represents a different kind of abuse.

The ones to watch for are the white ones: those represent someone who died in Henderson County from abuse.

Walk Donation

Walk

The St. Edwards Catholic Church Knights of Columbus recently donated $400 to John Dämm for the upcoming Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event. The event, scheduled for May 31, raises funds for the East Texas Crisis Center and awareness for the county’s victims of sexual violence. Pictured are, from left, Albert Villalva, Dämm, Bob Garrett, and Jim Streifel. For more information contact the ETCC at 903-675-2137.

PWC Donates Tables, Cart to Mabank Fire Department

PWC

The Pinnacle Women’s Club donated 20 six-foot commercial Lifetime banquet tables and one cart to the Mabank Fire Department for their tremendous help with last year’s garage sale. Ricky Myrick, who oversees Mabank’s Parks and Recreation Department and is Mabank’s Volunteer Fire Chief, accepted the donation. The tables will be used for training and for several of the fire departments fundraising events – the next event is a Fish Fry on April 12. And, they will be loaned to the Women’s Club for the upcoming garage sale at the Mabank Pavilion on October 9 and 10. Pictured are: Jean Alexander, Ricky Myrick, Rebecca Brisendine at the Mabank Fire Department.
