Cedar Creek Lake fall business expo announced

chamber logoCCL Chamber press release

Applications are now being accepted for the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s new Cedar Creek Lake Fall Business Expo, slated for Oct. 17, 2013 from 3-7 p.m. at the Mabank Pavilion. Open to non-members, as well as members, the Business Expo is an exciting new event for CCLACC and will bring a great deal of value for the Cedar Creek Lake business community and the consumers in the area.

This rare opportunity for networking business-to-business in a professionally presented setting will be free to the public and well advertised in advance of the Expo date. The time of year was selected because the chamber felt it would be a perfect time for the business community to start holiday promotions. Local businesses would be able to advertise their services and build brand awareness with business banners similar to those on sites like signatureprint.co.uk as well as other types of promotion.

A few years ago, the chamber was able to host a very well-received expo, but lost the venue. The Mabank Pavilion now has solar screens that can be lowered if necessary and the Mabank Fire Department is generously allowing use of the facility for the community event. Chamber President Jo Ann Hanstrom, said, “We’re excited to be able to offer this new, totally business-related event to our members and the rest of the business community, as well as the public. We’re counting on great weather at that time of year, but having the solar screens in place ‘just in case’ is definitely a plus and was a factor in the board’s decision to host another Expo.” Continue reading “Cedar Creek Lake fall business expo announced”

‘Rachel’s Happy Feet’ eyes 900 pair of shoes

Rachel

By James Robertson
Cedar Creek Lake Television

When most 7-year-old girls are asked what they want for their eighth birthday, the answer is usually a new doll or maybe even a puppy. When Amanda Beets asked her 7-year-old daughter Rachel what she wanted, the answer blew her away. Rachel wants 900 pairs of shoes, but not for herself.

Rachel Beets turns eight on Jan. 31, 2014 and for her birthday she wants to give 900 pairs of shoes to local children who have been neglected and abused.

Rachel’s vision is that all kids have shoes to play outside, just like her. She loves shoes and believes that all children deserve a pair of “fast runners.” After all, to a 7-year-old, brand new shoes make you run super fast.

Rachel’s parents weren’t sure they could make something like this happen when they first heard this is what she wanted for her birthday. But, after only a week of passing it around on Facebook, a group Amanda created called “Rachel’s Happy Feet” has grown to over 300 members and is gaining tremendous support from the communities in Henderson County.

“Rachel’s Happy Feet” will be giving collected shoes to the Rainbow Room with Child Protective Services and Rachel will have a chance to meet the Rainbow Room president at the upcoming “Duck Run” on Sept. 28 at the Texas Freshwater Fishery Center. Long Cove says it creates 200 jobs; $36 million in construction

Long Cove press release

Long Cove, a new residential community on Cedar Creek Lake, is pleased to announce that its development activity has generated more than 200 jobs, the vast majority of which are filled by Henderson County residents. Most of these new jobs have been construction related. Even though this can provide people with a way out of unemployment, the last people you may find on a construction site are young people, as 64% of millennials said they wouldn’t work in construction even if they had the opportunity to earn a large sum of money. With this not being a job of choice for this generation, at least it will open doors for other workers. The developer and the community’s new property owners are investing a combined $36 million in construction at Long Cove, including infrastructure projects, community amenities, and single-family homes. Long Cove’s development activity is planned to continue for many years, and the resulting job creation is anticipated to remain steady for the foreseeable future.

In addition to employing Henderson County residents, Long Cove is also generating significant additional economic activity as its new residents begin to patronize local businesses and new properties are added to the county tax rolls. Long Cove expects to ultimately grow to approximately 400 properties total, which will generate substantial long-term economic activity in Henderson County. Because Long Cove is largely a second-home community that owns and maintains its roads and other infrastructure, its economic contribution to the local area in the form of new tax revenue will far outweigh the minimal costs it will require from the county and other local service providers.

“We are grateful for the support that Henderson County and our neighboring communities have provided throughout our current phases of development,” said Long Cove President Christopher Kelsey. “We are particularly pleased to create so many local jobs for our community, and we are dedicated to employing local vendors whenever possible to meet our construction and ongoing staffing needs.” Continue reading “Long Cove says it creates 200 jobs; $36 million in construction”

‘Mountain of Hope’ makes a difference

mountain“Mountain of Hope is a faith based non-profit 501.c.3 corporation that was established in 2009 by several members of Liberty Baptist Church in Gun Barrel City for the express purpose of providing humanitarian aid to the people of Creve, Haiti. Other churches and individuals have united with Mountain of Hope by having fund-raising events, making one-time gifts and/or giving monthly donations toward this exciting and worthwhile cause. The Mountain of Hope team members have been to Creve multiple times over the past 13 years and have witnessed first-hand the great need for accessible water to the people of Creve for drinking, cooking and bathing.

Mountain of Hope, with the help of many, has been able to raise funds for drilling 2 deep bore water wells in Creve. There is a need for 4 more strategically placed water wells throughout Creve to furnish clean dependable water to the community. The cost of drilling these wells is at least $16,000.00 per well (must have funds for two wells before any company will travel there to drill.)

Mountain of Hope would like to ask that churches or civic groups interested in helping to invite us to come and share the need and plans with you.

Please call Patrick McIntyre at 903-887-4811 or 903-288-6649 or Precois Norcilus at 903 372-3675. Please visit us on Facebook at Mountain of Hope or at our website www.mountainofhopecrevehaiti.org.
