Gooden Announces Water District Questioned by Grand Jury

Thursday, State Rep. Lance Gooden announced that the Henderson County Grand Jury questioned officials from the Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) in September at his request.

TRWD owns and operates Cedar Creek Lake as well as three other major water reservoirs.

Gooden told members of the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce that he was concerned with the way the TRWD board is spending money, but said he has been stymied from getting details.

“I suspect that there’s probably mismanagement and there are things happening there that should not be happening, which is why I turned in an open records request in March,” he told HCN. “I have yet to get all the information I’ve requested. Masonic Youth Donate Water to GBC Fire Department

11-8-14 Charity Project--Fire Dept bottled waterThe Gun Barrel City Masonic Youth Rainbow Girls donated cases of bottled water and delivered fresh-baked cookies to the Gun Barrel City Fire Department on Saturday, Nov. 8. The girls noted how much they appreciate the firemen’s service to our community, and look forward to future projects honoring them.

The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls is a service-oriented, leadership organization for girls between the ages of 11 and 20. Rainbow Girls participate in a wide array of activities, including leadership training, service projects, competitions, and annual retreats. Their younger group, the Pledges, have activities for girls ages 7 to 10. Rootseekers Hold ‘Bragging Rights’ Meeting

Rootseekers Genealogical Society members met at the Tri-County Library in Mabank recently for their yearly “Bragging Rights.” Bragging Rights is when some member has an ancestor they would like to brag about. A dollar will gain you two minutes to brag. Many members go over and have to pay more. Money goes to buy books for the genealogy room.

Carol Dwinnell led off with her husband’s family who joined the ” First Families of Oklahoma.” His ancestor was Martin Luther Gorman. She had two certificates that they accepted her information as proof that the Gormans were one of the first families in Oklahoma.

Grace Donovan came next with a photo album of tintypes. She had to repair some of the pages when she first received it because it was in such bad shape. Rainbow Girls Travel to Greenville

The Gun Barrel City Masonic Youth Rainbow Girls traveled to Greenville to participate in a joint meeting with the Sunshine Rainbow Girls Assembly on Saturday, Oct. 25. The girls were excited that McKenna Sanders, Grand Representative to Arkansas and a member of the Elmwood Assembly in Dallas, was able to join them for this meeting. Mrs. Donna Dean, Grand Deputy, was also in attendance and brought greetings to the girls. At lunch, the Banquet Hall was decorated in fall colors and motifs. Events Scheduled to Help Humane Society of CCL

Two fun events the weekend of Nov. 8 – 9 will help the animals at the Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake.

The annual Shelter Yard Sale will be held Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the refreshed Shelter grounds. Please note the new location. As in previous years, there will be many amazing deals on furniture, household goods, clothing, and other items. Donated goods can be dropped off at the Shelter; deadline is Friday Nov. 6 at 3 p.m.

The Shelter is located 100 yards south of the intersection of Route 274 and Arnold Hills Road, at 10200 County Road 2043 in Tool. Watch for the sign at that intersection.
