Guitars Etc. again named Top 100 Dealer

guitars etcPress release

Guitars Etc. in Athens, has been named a Top 100 Dealer by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), the global association of music products and music retailers. The organization will recognize Guitars Etc on Friday, June 24, at the Top 100 Dealer Awards event held as part of the 2016 Summer NAMM Show in Nashville, Tennessee. What are double neck guitars and how are they different from the other guitars? What are the benefits of using such an instrument? Is it widely used by musicians? If you hear this word, the first thing that comes into mind is that it is a piece of instrument with two guitars stuck side by side so that you will have two guitars in just one piece of instrument. The basic function is to give the instrumentalist the ability to switch between different kinds of guitars without having to pull out another one. In concerts where time and music is played so fast, it is of the musician’s advantage when using this instrument. The double wide neck guitar usability is astonishing on a musician’s perspective. Bassists, guitarists and other musicians aims to be able to play multiple instruments in one show and in one song. It takes skill to master even one guitar, and that means it takes more skill to master playing two guitars at once. If a musician is comfortable enough when playing a song, it will make him or her a better musician. Because of double neck guitars, guitarists may have a greater chance to get the power or ability to create something new from it. Transferring from one guitar to another may cause extreme hassle and wastes time and dead air when playing music live. It helps when you did not have to put down the first guitar and just proceed from one song to another without hassle. The Gibson EDS-1275 is the most famous double neck guitar played by one of the rock and roll legendary bands of all time, the Zeppelin. Looking at double neck guitar may give you an impression that it is a very difficult device to play or use but in truth, it gives a musician more chances of being more creative and guitar mastery.

This is the third time Guitars Etc. has been honored.

“Guitars Etc. was selected by a discerning panel of judges as one of the very best among music retailers,” said Joe Lamond, NAMM President and CEO. “This special recognition signifies Guitars Etc’s commitment to providing an excellent retail experience for their customers, helping people of all ages discover the joys and benefits of making music, and to fostering a positive musical experience for their community at large.”

City of Athens releases report about haloacetic acids

Athens LogoPress release (via City of Athens Facebook page)

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has notified the CITY OF ATHENS TX 1070005 that the drinking water being supplied to customers had exceeded the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for haloacetic acids (group of five). The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) has established the MCL for haloacetic acids (group of five) to be 0.060 milligrams per liter (mg/L) based on locational running annual average (LRAA), and has determined that it is a health concern at levels above the MCL. Analysis of drinking water in your community for haloacetic acids (group of five) indicates a compliance value in quarter one 2016 of 0.063 mg/L for DBP2-01 and 0.064 mg/L for DBP2-04.

Haloacetic acids are a group of volatile organic compounds that are formed when chlorine, added to the water during the treatment process for disinfection, reacts with naturally-occurring organic matter in the water.

Some people who drink water containing HAA5 in excess of the MCL over many years may have an increased risk of getting cancer.
You do not need to use an alternative water supply. However, if you have health concerns, you may want to talk to your doctor to get more information about how this may affect you.

We are taking the following actions to address this issue:

  • We are systematically rehabilitating our Elevated and Ground Storage Tanks to ensure that we meet TCEQ requirements.
  • We are developing a strategic replacement plan of our current water infrastructure.
  • We will have additional samples tested in order to closely monitor our HAA5 levels.
  • Recent sample results from this quarter have dropped significantly in detectability compared to the previous quarter’s samples. We expect a compliant locational running annual average later this year.

Please share this information with all people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (i.e., people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

If you have questions regarding this matter, you may contact Lawrence Cutrone with the City of Athens at 903-677-1735.
