Carpenter qualifies for National Junior High Finals Rodeo

Cutter Cash CarpenterCutter Cash Carpenter, a sixth grade student at Martins Mill ISD, has earned a position on the Texas National Junior High Rodeo Team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Gallup, N.M. June 23-29 to compete at the ninth annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo in the Boys Goat Tying competition.

In order to qualify for the Texas National Rodeo Team, Cutter competed at the Texas State Junior High Finals in Gonzales, Texas the week of May 25-June 1. There were approximately 100 contestants in each event. The top 15 contestants after two rounds advanced to the short round and from the short round the top four contestants based on their three-round combined times and scores earned positions on the Texas National Junior High Rodeo Team.

Cutter won Round 2 with a time of 9.58 seconds and won the short round with a time of 9.31 seconds, which was the fastest time of the whole finals in the boys goat tying competition.

Cutter finished the Texas State Junior High Finals being named the 2013 Reserve Champion Boys Goat Tyer for the State of Texas.

Featuring more than 1,000 contestants from 41 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia, the National Junior High Finals Rodeo is the world’s largest junior high rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $75,000 in prizes, National Junior High Finals Rodeo contestants will also be vying for more than $100,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named the National Junior High Finals Rodeo National Champion. To earn this title, contestants must finish in the top 20 to advance to Saturday evening’s final round. National champions will then be determined based on their three-round combined times/scores.

Again this year, the Saturday championship performance will be televised nationally as a part of the CinchTown Tour telecast series on RFD-TV. Live broadcasts of each National Junior High Finals performance will also air online at www.nhsratv.com, powered by iHigh.com. Performance times are 7 p.m. on June 23 and 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day thereafter.

Along with great rodeo competition and the chance to meet new friends from around the world, National Junior High Finals Rodeo contestants have the opportunity to enjoy family-oriented activities, church services sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys, and shopping at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo trade show, as well as visiting historical attractions of New Mexico and nearby Arizona.
