Area youth will have an opportunity to join Scouts Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at First Christian Church in Athens during their annual Open House. The Boy Scouts of America offers numerous opportunities for youth to be involved in activities such as camping, hiking, fishing, field trips, and Pinewood Derbies. One of its greatest attributes, however, stems from the leadership and self-confidence that the program instills in youth.
Cub Scouts are for boys entering the 1st grade through 5th grade. Boy Scouts are open to boys from 5th grade, or age 11, to age 18. For young men and women ages 14 to 18 interested in high adventure on the water and camping, Sea Scouts and Venture Scouts will be recruiting as well.
The Scouts meet each week on Tuesdays for fun, games, and activities from 5:30-7 p.m. Additionally, each program actively camps and plans numerous outings throughout the year in order to build character and self-confidence. All parents and youth are cordially invited to stop by and sample Dutch Oven cobbler, ice cream, and snow cones at First Christian Church located at 900 Robbins Road in Athens on Aug. 18 at 5:30.
