Press release

A recently crowned beauty queen will celebrate Independence Day raising awareness for a ranch with a vision to help heal veterans suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome. Ms. Texas Belleza Latina 2015, Gia Castillo, is an ambassador for the Texas Veteran’s Ranch and Family Resort. She is a disabled veteran and retired staff sergeant from Killeen recovering from a brain tumor.

The Texas Veterans’ Ranch And Family Resort is located at TVRAFR Inc. 4810 Co Rd. 3921 in Athens. The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 4.

After being diagnosed with an Arachnoid Cyst in 2006, Castillo continues to fight against the biggest battle of her life. For the past nine years, she has had more than a dozen surgeries and months of physical therapy. As Castillo learns how to live as a disabled veteran, she hopes her story will help others overcome their own medical conditions.

Castillo plans to use the ranch as a platform to share her story of survival and support disabled veterans in her community and throughout the state of Texas. The ranch serves as a sanctuary for veterans and their families dealing with stress and anxiety-related disorders due to combat and war. With counseling programs and other amenities such as horseback riding, camping and fishing, the nonprofit will help veterans get back on their feet.

Castillo will be a guest speaker at the ranch’s open house on Saturday, July 4. For more information, contact TVRAFR at (512) 371-7151 or www.tvrafr.org.
