Graveside services and interment for Joyce Warren, 78, Athens have been scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Park with Reagan “Buck” Tanner officiating.

Mrs. Warren died Monday evening in Tyler.

Joyce was born Jan. 2, 1935 in Athens to the late Reagan Herman and Roxie Krene Hall Tanner. Joyce retired from Lone Star Gas after 25 years of service. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a very unselfish person making sure everyone else’s needs were first. She loved to read and cook. She was a Baptist.

Rainbow Girls press release

The Gun Barrel City Assembly Rainbow Girls hosted state leaders at its meeting on Saturday, May 11, at the Cedar Creek Lake Masonic Lodge.

At the meeting, the girls honored Boston White, Grand Worthy Advisor, their girl leader on the state level. In addition, they were pleased to also host Mrs. JoAnn Weaver, Supreme Deputy in Texas (adult leader on the state level), and her husband, Bruce (Grand Executive Committee). The Rainbow Girls performed a delightful honor program based on the “Wizard of Oz” theme. During the program, they presented Boston with seven carnations that were dyed the seven colors of the Rainbow and a “love” gift. The girls and their guests were then treated to a delicious lunch of chicken salad sandwiches on croissant bread, chips, vegetable trays with dips, fruit trays, juices, and iced tea. After lunch, the Rainbow Girls, their younger Pledge sisters, and guests went bowling.

PWC donation to Humane Society of CCL

The Pinnacle Women’s Club recently donated $1,000 to the Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake. This animal shelter is an open admission shelter that serves Henderson County. They accept homeless animals and find them loving “forever” homes.They are advocates for homeless and abused animals and reach out to the community for humane and responsible treatment. Saturday, May 18, the Kiwanis Club of Athens, Henderson County 4-H Council and Troop 11 Life Scout Justin Jones is teaming up with area businesses to make improvements to Kiwanis Park located off Prairieville Street in Athens.

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Athens will be on-hand giving-a-hand to the youth in the community who have made the park a priority for their community and volunteer service improvements.
