District Attorney press release

There was more than one storm brewing Tuesday night as a Henderson County Jury of eight women and four men handed down four life sentences and one 20-year sentence to Danny Ray Lusk, 37 of Kemp. Jurors convicted Lusk the evening before of four counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child by contact before sentencing Lusk to the maximum jail time available on each count.

Lusk was arrested in April 2011 for the aggravated sexual assaults of two family members under the age of 14. Monte Mansfield of the Gun Barrel City Police investigated the case along with assistance from the Tool PD, CPS, Children’s Advocacy Center and the Henderson County District Attorney’s Office.

Evidence presented by Assistant District Attorney Mark Hall and Assistant District Attorney Nancy Rumar during the week-and-half long trial revealed that Lusk began assaulting the two victims when they were 3 and 4 years old. Both victims testified that Lusk assaulted them for years before finally coming forward to other family members.

During the punishment phase Continue reading “Lusk gets 4 life sentences for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child”

Agriculturist of the Year Presentation

The 2013 Joe B. Fulgham Agriculturist of the Year is a graduate of Athens High School. His lifelong ambition has been to farm, raise cattle, and enjoy that way of life. He started with a few cattle and a poultry laying operation selling eggs. He now runs a commercial cow/calf operation raising quality Brangus replacement heifers for sale to other ranchers, a feed steer operation growing out approximately 150 steers a year, custom tractor work, baling hay and planting sprigs. Severe Weather headed toward Henderson County

By Michael V. Hannigan

Henderson County is currently under a Tornado Watch until 7 p.m.

Here is a severe weather briefing from the National Weather Service for today.

While we are always aware of the dangers of severe weather here, the events yesterday in Oklahoma have many people on edge as storm cells approach the county. When it comes to severe weather it could cause a lot of damage to homes, destroying roofs, gardens and pulling down trees. Some homeowners find that using somewhere like these austin roofing companies could help them to get back on their feet when the weather has knocked them off it.

I spoke with Henderson County Emergency Management Coordinator Joy Kimbrough regarding today’s weather, and she said that the likely window for the most severe weather in Henderson County was between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

She said that was just an estimate, however, based on current weather models.

“We are in close contact with the National Weather Service and we will do as much as we possible can Continue reading “Severe Weather headed toward Henderson County”
