At a meeting of the Lone Star Republican Women held last Thursday in Athens, First Assistant District Attorney Mark W. Hall announced that he is seeking the judgeship of the Henderson County Court at Law No. 1, currently held by Matt Livingston. Judge Livingston, who has held the bench for almost 28 years, has not publicly announced whether he will seek another term.
Hall told those gathered that while a judge must be unbiased in matters that come before him or her, and refrain from making decisions for political purposes, an unwavering adherence to the Constitution is to him, the epitome of being a conservative, and from which he will not deviate.
Hall has been the First Assistant to Henderson County District Attorney Scott McKee since McKee assumed office in January 2009. He filled in for McKee in the District Attorney’s Office during most of 2010 while McKee was deployed to Iraq as an Infantry Battalion Operations Officer. “I couldn’t think of anyone more qualified than Mark to assume the County Court at Law No.1. Mark is not only a friend and a mentor, he is the most fair and honest person I know. He has a passion for the Constitution and the rule of law.”
McKee also said that he has personally witnessed Mark’s deep love of his country and patriotism during his combat tour in Iraq as well as his own son Andrew’s combat tour in Afghanistan.
“I know Mark worried every day while Andrew and I were deployed. He truly knows and has a personal appreciation for service to our country,” said McKee.
In addition to handling the day-to-day docket in the 3rd District Court of Judge Mark Calhoon, Hall has a supervisory role over six other assistant district attorneys in the office as well as two peace officer investigators and support staff, and continues to fill in for McKee when required, due to the occasional demands of the Army Reserves.
“Working in the D.A.’s office under Scott, who is a tremendous leader, person and friend, has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” said Hall, “but I feel that now is the time for me to make the move to the bench.”
Hall, who is a long-time resident of Chandler, has been practicing in Henderson and surrounding counties for almost 20 years. Prior to joining McKee at the District Attorney’s Office, Hall was in private practice with offices in Chandler and Tyler where he had a general practice of law handling criminal, civil, appellate, family, juvenile, real estate, wills, probate and CPS cases. He also practiced in the Federal District Courts in the Eastern District of Texas.
Touting his principles, integrity and experience, Hall said, “I have spent my whole legal career in the trenches of the courtroom fighting for those I represent, whether individuals or the citizens of Henderson County in my role as First Assistant. I’ve probably handled 90 percent of the kinds of cases that come before a court, and have the ability to see and understand both sides of a contested issue. At one time or another, I’ve most likely been on a similar case from each of those sides.”

Hall has been married to his wife Ann, who is a Realtor and the current Mayor of Chandler, for over 30 years. They have three grown children. Jordan is a registered nurse, Andrew is a Corporal and Squad Leader in a Marine Infantry Company, and Adam is a college student at Texas State Technical Institute in Waco.
