Rootseekers Hold ‘Bragging Rights’ Meeting

Rootseekers Genealogical Society members met at the Tri-County Library in Mabank recently for their yearly “Bragging Rights.” Bragging Rights is when some member has an ancestor they would like to brag about. A dollar will gain you two minutes to brag. Many members go over and have to pay more. Money goes to buy books for the genealogy room.

Carol Dwinnell led off with her husband’s family who joined the ” First Families of Oklahoma.” His ancestor was Martin Luther Gorman. She had two certificates that they accepted her information as proof that the Gormans were one of the first families in Oklahoma.

Grace Donovan came next with a photo album of tintypes. She had to repair some of the pages when she first received it because it was in such bad shape. Athens Country Club GM Earns CCE Designation

cindyLast week, Athens Country Club General Manager Cindy Davis completed the Club Managers Association of America’s BMI V (Business Management Institute) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. This is a final class in a 10-year journey that will give Davis the Certified Chief Executive (CCE) designation. This designation is to recognize those managers who have shown the ability to successfully serve as the most senior manager in a club. Once she has completed her petition to CMAA for her designation, she will join only a few dozen club managers worldwide who have attained this hallmark of professionalism. Davis is the on the far right on the bottom row in the photo.

Obituary: Bobbie McCullough

Bobbie-Mccullough-1414675541Bobbie McCullough passed away on Oct. 29, 2014 at the age of 90.

Bobbie was born on Oct. 4, 1924 in Shelby, Texas to Ernest Earl and Zilla Strickland.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth and wife Jody McCullough, daughter, Susan Gottschalk, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Zilla Strickland, husband, B. W. McCullough, sisters, June Connor, Mickey Fryman and Betty Lou Vail, brother, Vernon Strickland.

Visitation will be held on Nov. 4, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Tool First Baptist Church.

Service will follow at 11 a.m. at Tool First Baptist Church, Tool, with Bro. Ed Brennan officiating.

Malakoff Tigers Playoff Fan Bus

Malakoff logoOn Friday, Nov. 14, the Malakoff Tigers will play in the first playoff game, in Carthage. We will be running a Fan Bus for anyone who needs a ride to the game. The cost will be $5 per person, payable when they sign up to ride. The bus will depart Malakoff High School at 4 p.m.

DEADLINE is Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 3 p.m. Need a minimum of 25 people to make.
