The annual Walk A Mile event has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 6, after being rained out last weekend.
East Texas Crisis Center Director of Outreach Carla Gandy posted: “Ok folks the 3rd Annual Walk A Mile in her shoes has been rescheduled for this Saturday at the Henderson County Courthouse 8:45 am!”
A Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event is a playful opportunity for men in our community to raise awareness about the serious causes, effects and remediation’s to sexualized violence.
There is an old saying: “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” Walk a Mile in Her Shoes ask men to literally walk one mile in women’s high heeled shoes. It’s not easy walking in these shoes, but its fun and it gets the community to talk about something that is really difficult to talk about: gender relations and sexual violence. It demonstrates that men are willing and able to be courageous partners with women in making the world a safer place.
The walk will take place at the Northwest Corner of the Town Square (Tyler & Prairieville St.).
Sign In, Shoe Pick-up & pictures begin at 8:45 a.m. Walk starts at 9:30 a.m.
All proceeds of this event will benefit victim services provided by the East Texas Crisis Center in Henderson County.
