Voluntary Evacuation Called Near Fish And Game Club Lake

By Michael V. Hannigan

Henderson County issued a voluntary evacuation call for the area between the Fish and Game Club Lake and Lake Athens Monday afternoon.

The roads associated with the voluntary evacuation include: 4908, 4909, 4910, 4911, 4912, 4913, 4812, 4818, and Rose Point.

“We have encouraged those people, because of the possible imminent danger, to evacuate from the area,” Henderson County Judge Richard Sanders said.

“The area we are worried about is between Lake Athens and Fish and Game Lake,” he said.

Sanders said the reason for the notice was because there has been a “slight” breach on the west end of the Fish and Game Lake dam near FM 317. He said the county was concerned that there might be further erosion considering the weather forecast.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms Tuesday, and a 50 percent chance of storms Wednesday and Thursday for Athens.

Sanders said people who are evacuating can go to the Henderson County Annex. The county is working on providing possible shelters.

  1. Is this the new dam on the latest retaining pond project on the Fisheries property?
