UPDATED – TxDOT announced FM 773 is open.
TxDOT Press Release
Texas Department of Transportation crews were working into Monday evening to remove trees and other debris from roadways around the Tyler District. Meanwhile, the stormy conditions have caused three roadways in Henderson County to be closed, two indefinitely.
According to TxDOT, the storms left many roads around the area flooded and impassable. As of 5:30 p.m. Monday, two roadways were closed due to weather conditions:
– FM 317 is washed out approximately three miles east of SH 31 and will remain closed indefinitely as plans for emergency repairs can be developed. Temporary water barriers are being put in place at this location. Traffic is detoured to FM 2495 and back to Loop 7.
– FM 1616 also washed out from Loop 7 to FM 773 and remains closed until further notice as emergency repairs are planned and implemented. Temporary safety barriers are being erected at this location. Traffic is being redirected.
Henderson County crews are also keeping an eye on FM 2636 which has water over the road.
“They’ll continue to monitor flooded roadways until the water recedes,” said Kathi White, TxDOT spokesperson. “I really want to remind drivers not to remove barriers put in place for safety purposes at these compromised locations. Doing so could create dangerous situations for themselves and others.”
Flash flooding is the leading cause of weather-related deaths in Texas. As little as six inches of water can float some vehicles. If you encounter a flooded road, Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
