Two fund-raisers have been scheduled to assist Trinity Valley Community College student Sasha Madsen, who was recently diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia.
Madsen, 27, is currently without insurance and getting treatment at MD Anderson in Houston. All proceeds from the fund-raisers will go toward medical, travel and lodging expenses for the Madsen family.
A “Strolling for Sasha 5K” walk has been scheduled for Saturday, May 17, beginning in the TVCC Administration Building parking lot in Athens at 10 a.m. Those who wish to run the 5K course may do so.
Cost is $30 for adults (includes an event T-shirt), $10 for children ages 3-12 (who will receive a goody bag in lieu of a T-shirt) and free for ages 2 and under. Those who pre-register will receive a $5 discount per person. “Day-of” registration will begin at 9 a.m. Lunch and live entertainment by Phat Johnny and the Buicks will begin at 11:30 a.m.
A silent auction and bake sale will be held in conjunction with the event. There will also be various activities for kids.
For more information or to pre-register, contact Jennifer Evilsizer at 903-570-8257 or at [email protected] or Shelia Jones at 903-360-0456 or [email protected].
Additionally, a silent auction for a 36×40 piece of abstract art will be held to benefit Madsen during the TVCC Spring Art Show scheduled for Thursday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The show will be held on the first floor of the Administration Building on the Athens campus (100 Cardinal Drive).
The painting was created by the TVCC Painting I class and art instructor Sue Lynn Trent. All proceeds from the auction of the painting will go toward defraying Madsen’s medical expenses.
