The TVEC Charitable Foundation awarded a $2,000 grant to the Henderson County Black History Committee on March 22. The grant will be used to help with the HCBHC scholarship fund. Scholarships were awarded to 22 Henderson County recipients this year.
The amount of the HCBHC scholarship has not been determined due to the fact that the Black History Committee are still doing events to raise money for the 22 scholarship recipients.
The TVEC Charitable Foundation is funded by donations from Operation Round Up. Operation Round Up is a voluntary program that allows TVEC members to round up their monthly electric bills to the next whole dollar amount. The portion that is rounded up goes to the TVEC Charitable Foundation and may be used to award grant requests to local charitable organizations.
“Our organization is very thankful to TVEC Charitable Foundation for their donation. We are all about helping students who want to attend college. No matter the ethnical background, the Henderson County Black History Committee gives encouragement, vision, and empowerment to each scholarship recipient past and present. We want them to know that after receiving their education, they can come back to Henderson County and be a powerful force in the community,” said Rev. Joey Baggett, President of the HCBHC.
Lifetime members Homer Ray Trimble and Rosie Marie Trimble said, “We are thankful to TVEC Charitable Foundation for helping us to send our 22 scholarship recipients to college. We know that the cost of college is very high and it takes lots of money to send students to college. We thank TVEC Charitable Foundation for having the same vision as the HCBHC to educate our children. We want each student to fulfill their dreams.”
