With Wednesday’s 77-62 win against Navarro in Corsicana, which completed a sweep of the Bulldogs, the seventh-ranked Cardinals have now clinched a bye in the opening round of the Region XIV Tournament, which is scheduled March 3-7 in Tyler. The Cardinals, likely to be the 1 or 2 seed, will not play their first game until Thursday, March 5.
Despite Wednesday’s 64-62 loss to Angelina in Lufkin, which halted a 70-game conference winning streak, the Lady Cardinals are still up 2 games on Tyler in Region XIV Conference with 3 games to go. The Lady Cardinals swept Tyler in conference play and own the head-to-head tiebreaker. The Lady Cardinals need just 1 win to clinch no worse than a share of their 14th straight conference title and 23rd in 24 years. They are likely to be the No. 1 seed in the regional tournament, meaning their first game would be on Wednesday, March 4.
Both teams are at home for a final time Saturday against Bossier Parish. Action begins at 4 p.m. Both games will be webcast on the Cardinal Sports Network.
