The Trinity Valley Community College Choral Program would like to invite the community to attend its fall concert, “Celebrate Music” at 3:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Athens on Sunday Oct. 19. There is no admission charge and the concert promises to be exciting and full of various styles of music.
The choirs are under the direction of Michael Matchael with accompanists Mark Reeves and Kirk Overmoe. The music is contemplative, full of passion, educational and enjoyable to listen to.
The Cardinal Choir will perform in all English for this concert and then add foreign languages to subsequent performances throughout the course of the year. The songs allow the listener to connect to the exuberance of the music and sometimes the deep contemplative nature of the songs. The Chamber Choir, which is a smaller group, will be performing some difficult literature to include works by Eric Whitacre and Ola Gjeilo. Both composers write music which is close in harmonies and a challenge for any group to sing accurately.
Finally, the group known as “Encore” is centered on music that is jazz, pop and rock over several decades. This particular concert features a song by a group called, “Pentatonix,” which is an Acapella group that won the third season of The Sing-Off on NBC in 2011.
The event is free and open to the public. Please come and help us “Celebrate Music!”
