The No. 2-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals closed the first half of their schedule in milestone fashion Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals held off the Jacksonville College Jaguars for an 82-79 win – the 1,200th in school history.
Fourth-year coach Kris Baumann’s Cardinals head into the holiday break with a 14- 1 season record and 4-0 Region XIV Conference mark. The Cardinals have won nine straight games.
The Cardinals are scheduled to return to play Saturday, Jan. 2, against Coastal Bend in Beeville. Game time is 2 p.m.
A three-game homestand follows the long trip to South Texas. The Cardinals play Lamar State-PA on Wednesday, Jan. 6, Lee on Monday, Jan. 11 and Panola on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
The Cardinals were up 35-31 at halftime against Jacksonville before going on a run to start the second half and lead 68-52 with 10 minutes left. Jacksonville came storming back to make a game of it in the closing minutes.
Hyron Edwards had 15 points to lead the Cardinals. He also had five assists.
Also scoring in double figures were J.C. Washington with 14 and Brandon Holley 12.
Josh Stamps had nine for the Cardinals and Leon Gilmore III eight.
