The City of Trinidad lost its police force today.
Trinidad Police Chief James Cook confirmed that he and the department’s only other officer have resigned.
The resignations are effective as of April 21 — the date of the next City Council meeting, Cook said. He said that he and the other officer will be off between now and that council meeting.
Cook declined to say anything more at this time.
Mayor Larry Estes said the plan for now is for the Sheriff’s Office to cover the city until the April 21 council meeting, when he will propose the city advertise for new officers and rebuild the department.
Estes said neither officer offered a reason for leaving with their resignation.
Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Bodie Hillhouse said the HCSO is aware of the situation and is currently covering the Trinidad area.
LoL. .. good riddens. One of their “finest” pulled me over because, get this…. “my bumper ball hitch was blocking the view of my license plate.” So I said… “yeah. And so is about 10,000 others around here.” And of course it took him and a Malakoff cop (his buddy) to pull me over… As if i was going to run or something. If they were that bored (both Trinidad & Malakoff ), the cheif in both towns should’ve sent them home and save the tax payers some money. And the chief took up for him. As if making up reasons to pull people over was a good thing. This is one thing thats upsetting Americans about todays police force. They help the politicians erode our liberties with having the authority to make up reasons to get into our business… “Where are you headed? Where are you coming from? Got anything on you I need to know about?”…. How about you mind your business and deal with me when I’m actually doung something wrong. Instead of just making up reasons.
Why does Trinidad need a police department anyways? Revenue generation maybe? They sure have some fancy cars for such a small force. The $30,000 per officer would go a long ways towards saving the tax payers a lot of money as well.
What I want to know is if the pay is only 30000 for officer must be around 50000 for the chief how does he have 150000 home on 20 acres and horses farm equipment 7 are 8 cars
