Press release
Mark Tillison, of Murchison, has announced he is running for the office of County Commissioner representing Precinct 3 of Henderson County. He will be running on the Republican Ticket in the 2016 election.
Tillison is a lifelong member of Henderson County; choosing to live, work and raise his family here. He has been married to his wife, Becky Speer Tillison for 14 years, and they have two children, Ty, 11, and Taylor, 7, who both attend school in Brownsboro.
“Henderson County has afforded me so many opportunities, both professionally and as a safe place to raise my family. I want to keep it that way, and I want to give back to the community that has given me so much. I can do that by implementing a conservative approach to the use of tax dollars, while building upon and maintaining the current infrastructure of our roads, bridges, and other county recreational and educational facilities.”
Tillison is aware that the county faces many challenges, but he believes that his strong conservative values and fiscally responsible strategies will ensure economic growth and prosperity for the county as a whole.
“I want Henderson County to be a place that people want to do business. Too many businesses are being opened in adjacent counties, and our economy is suffering because of it. If we continue to improve upon the foundations in place, we can make this county a place more people choose to open businesses and give back to the community.”
Tillison has a strong and diverse background in finance, working 11 years with both Agriland Farm Credit Services and Austin Bank with a specialization in agriculture and consumer finance. Most recently, in 2010, Tillison was able to rejoin the family business in the farming and ranching industry.
“I understand the challenges that the people of Henderson County face when running a business and making a life for their families. I want the voters of Precinct 3 to know that I’m running to make their lives, and the lives of their children and grandchildren better. Yes, part of the Commissioner’s job is to build and maintain county roads and bridges, but those roads and bridges create jobs and bring business and growth into our economy. I want this to be the place our children want to live, work and raise their families. We do that by building and maintaining a solid foundation for not only today, but also tomorrow.”
Tillison is a 1994 graduate of Brownsboro High School and a 1998 graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Development. He is a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Brownsboro. Tillison is a Past Master of the Brownsboro Masonic Lodge No. 1051, where he maintains an active membership. He currently serves as Treasurer of the Allen Cemetery Association, a member of the National Rifle Association, as well as a member of the Texas A&M Century Club. Tillison has also served on the Henderson County Beef Cattle Committee and the Henderson County Commercial Heifer Show Committee.
“I believe in maintaining and supporting a strong presence of law enforcement, an honest and efficient judicial system and continued growth in education. I believe that by using smart and conservative initiatives we can improve upon the systems we have in place. I will work on not only growing recreational and educational facilities, but keeping them safe and prosperous.”
Tillison further remarked, “I know we have a lot of work ahead of us, and I expect this position to be challenging and demanding. But I believe the citizens deserve someone who will listen to them, and fight for them. I encourage all of Henderson County to get out and vote. Even if it’s not for me. It’s not only our right, but our duty, to vote people into office that will serve our communities and make them a better place to live and raise our families. Therefore, I would be honored to serve Henderson County, Pct. 3, as its next Commissioner.”
