During a special meeting Monday, the Athens ISD Board of Trustees appointed Kari Wilmeth to fill the seat being vacated by the resignation of Renda Garner.
“As a long time supporter of AISD and a parent of two children who attend Athens Public schools, I am honored to have been afforded the opportunity to serve the district in anyway I can,” Wilmeth said.
Garner is stepping down because she is moving outside the district and will no longer meet the residency requirement.
“We appreciate the years of service Mrs. Garner has given to the district,” said Superintendent Blake Stiles following the meeting. “She has helped us navigate some key decisions and will be missed.”
Wilmeth is expected to take her seat at the next board meeting.
In addition as on Monday, the board extended the contract of Superintendent Blake Stiles to the 2021-2022 school year.
