What Are The 39 Steps?
That is what Richard Hannay, “approximately thirty-seven and about six foot one”, “quite good looking actually with dark wavy hair, piercing blue eyes and a very attractive pencil moustache”; keeps asking as he is propelled through a series of wild adventures looking for the answer to this nagging question: What are the 39 Steps?
Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This 2-time Tony® and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of 4), an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance!
Bored with life, Hannay becomes the center of a nationwide manhunt after a mysterious woman, who says she is a spy, is murdered in his London flat. What ensues can only be described as a riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft, amounting to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure! Laughs abound as the mystery unfolds.
The ensemble cast consists of John Smith as Richard Hannay; Cassandra Schwantes as Annabella Schmidt, Pamela and Margaret; and Gordon Mayhall and Dustin Bartee as the other approximately 146 characters!
