The Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals’ rise to the top in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference has resulted in two players receiving superlative honors on the all-conference team.
Quarterback Ryan Polite, who has more than 3,000 passing yards and 30 touchdown passes through 11 games, is the conference’s Most Valuable Player. Polite is a 6-1, 200-pound DeSoto sophomore who transferred from UT-San Antonio.
Defensive tackle Jhaustin Thomas, who led the conference in both tackles for losses and quarterback sacks, is the conference’s Defensive Most Valuable Player. Thomas is a 6-6 Decatur, Ga. sophomore.
Joining Polite and Thomas as first-team selections for the Cardinals were Jataveon Green (WR), Duval Jackson (DE), Josh Pickett (LB) and D’Nerius Antione (DB).
Cardinals named to the second team were John Thomas (TE), Joel Valladares (C), Reggie Harris (OL) and Luis Lopez (RB).
Receiving honorable mention for the Cardinals were Nate Pickett (TE), Jarvis Baxter (WR), Trent Momon (WR), Franky Okafor (WR), Grant Shaw (OL), De’Andre Banks (OL), Kerrick Huggins (DL), Gant Kiolbassa (DL), Cortney Finney (LB), Darrius White (DB), Jomal Wiltz (DB), Josh Scroggins (DB), Dylan McLain (P), Antione (RS) and Green (RS).
The sixth-ranked Cardinals are 9-2 and will be playing 12th-ranked Mesa Community College in the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl in Copperas Cove on Saturday, Dec. 7.
