A 63-year-old man shot himself in the parking lot of the Henderson County Appraisal District Wednesday afternoon, according to Athens Police Chief Buddy Hill.
The man was taken from the scene by helicopter and was conscious, but there is no other word on his condition at this time.
The man’s estranged wife works at the Appraisal District, but she was not in the office when the man shot himself, said Hill.
Police say there is no indication the man intended to harm anyone other than himself.
There were no other details available this afternoon as police continue their investigation.
