Attention all parents of incoming freshman students: Malakoff High School requires a meal application for lunch program. Only Elementary schools, MMS, and MAP receive free breakfast and lunches. Applications will be available at campus, administration office and online to print on August 4th.
Black History Committee Car Show Winners

The Henderson County Black History Committee held its 4th Annual Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Show on Saturday, Aug. 1 at Malakoff High School. With the participation of 30 for the event, overall it was a success.

Drug Charges Added to Warrant Arrest
On Saturday, Aug. 1, Deputy Ray Yockey along with Deputy Josh Rickman was in the area of Emma Street, located in the City of Athens, attempting to locate a subject identified as Jamey Barina. The deputies were attempting to locate Barina in reference to him having an outstanding capias warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia. While on Emma Street, the deputies observed a vehicle that Jamey Barina was believed to be driving. Yockey and Rickman then observed Jamey Barina standing outside the vehicle. HCPAC Ready to Open ‘Legally Blonde’ this week
“There are twenty extremely talented youth in the cast of Legally Blonde, opening at HCPAC this Thursday”, says Executive Director, Marcia Colbert. “These kids have been working very hard for the last seven weeks to make this a fantastic show.”

TxDOT Update for Week of Aug. 3
TxDOT expects to be very busy in Henderson County the week of Aug. 3. Here are list of ongoing projects:
— TxDOT Maintenance will return to SH 274 where a hot mix overlay is being applied. Work will then move to the intersection of SH 198 and FM 316. A second crew continues making base repairs on various roads around the county. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.
— TxDOT contractor, Striping Technology, Inc., will have a crew adding striping on FM 2709 in Henderson County as part of the district-wide safety project to add centerline rumble strips. Expect lane closures.
— Work is underway on the SH 31 project that calls for milling the existing surface and placing a new overlay on the roadway. It should be completed in three months. Motorists should expect daytime lane closures throughout the duration project. Located at .09 miles west of FM 317 eastward to .34 miles west of FM 773.
— Big Creek Construction is conducting cleanup activities and final installations on the project widening FM 317 from FM 314 to FM 607. Expect lane closures.
— Cardinal Drive in Murchison is closed to through traffic while a new bridge is constructed. The project is expected to be completed in August 2015.
