Obituary: P. R. Goodell

perry goodell obit photoFuneral services for P. R. Goodell, 76 of Eustace are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015 at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Al Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Moorehead- Melton Cemetery.

Mr. Goodell passed away August 1, 2015 in Tyler.

He was born December 16, 1938 in Henderson County to David Crockett and Leona Mae Morris Goodell. He was a 1957 graduate of Eustace High School then attending Southern Methodist University. Mr. Goodell served in the United States Army. He worked for the Dallas Police Department retiring after a 28 year tenure. He loved football, farming and was full of life. Mabank Athletic Booster Club Excited For Homecoming

We the Mabank Athletic Booster Club are thrilled to announce the return of Homecoming. We will be hosting several events throughout the week, which will offer local businesses the chance to participate in community spirit and promote your business as well. We know many of our local businesses “Bleed Green” and we would love to offer you an opportunity to show your support. We believe together we can restore the community spirit that once was. Please take a look at the plans in progress for that week, and consider taking part.

We will gather for a community wide pep rally, bonfire, and music at the Mabank Pavilion. The night will begin around 5 p.m. We are offering the opportunities for local business owners to rent a space, where you will be able to sell your crafts, or advertise your business. You may even host games if you would like. The Booster Club will be offering hot dog meals and cotton candy, and there will be a bounce house for the kids, different clubs and organizations throughout the school system will be participating as well with different fund raising activities. These events will proceed the football team arriving around 7 p.m. At that time, we will host an introduction of the team and a pep rally, followed by a bonfire at the MFD Training Complex. You will have the option of keeping your booth open all night if you wish. The rental fee is $50 for a 10×10 space, which the Booster Club will use to provide opportunities to many Mabank athletes. This will be our biggest event, prior to the game Friday night, and will be heavily advertised throughout the district. You will not want to miss out on this opportunity! Jury Takes Just 17 Minutes for Guilty Verdict

Last week, a Henderson County Jury delivered a quick and decisive verdict after deliberating for only 17 minutes. The jury, composed of eight women and four men, convicted Francis Pearl Connelly of Possession of a Controlled Substance. The trial took two days in the 173rd Judicial District Court with Judge Dan Moore presiding.

Hensarling Schedules Town Hall Meeting in Athens

Congressman Jeb Hensarling will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting and Legislative Update 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6 at the Henderson County Senior Citizens Center in Athens (3356 Highway 31 East). In a press release Hensarling said the goal of the meeting is “to give an update on actions taken by the House of Representatives and hear from the residents of Henderson County about the issues that are important to them.”

EOTC Visits Athenian Patrick Wylie in Austin

The boys from Eye on the County recently visited Patrick Wylie in Austin. The former Athenian is working in the film industry now.

So when Kevin and I arrived in Austin we went right to Patrick Wylie’s house and his hospitality knows no bounds. Even though he had to work on set the next morning at 8 am, he stayed up till 2 am for our arrival.

That next day Kevin and I were out and about for the whole day, talking to friends and catching up. When we got back Patrick had prepared Indian Enchiladas, a new thing to us, but definitely a meal highlight.
