hattonagnesFuneral services for Agnes Hatton, 79 of Murchison are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015 at Opelika Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Fairbanks officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Memorial Cemetery.

Agnes passed away August 5, 2015 in Athens.

She was born December 21, 1935 in Rusk County to Robert and Bernice Thompson Grambling. Agnes had been a resident of Murchison 23 years. She was a member of Opelika Baptist Church. She loved reading and spending time with family and friends. Continue reading “Obituary: Agnes Hatton”

Two arrested on drug charges in Brownsboro

On Friday Aug. 7, at about 1:30 a.m., Deputy Brian Huckabee conducted a traffic stop on State Highway 31 inside the city limits of Brownsboro. After making contact with the operator of the vehicle identified as Johnny Nix, Huckabee conducted a search of the vehicle. Huckabee found a quantity of methamphetamines and marijuana inside the vehicle. Nix and the passenger of the vehicle, identified as Becky Kemp, where placed under arrest and booked into the Henderson County Jail for possession of a controlled substance pg.1 1-4 grams and Possession of Marijuana < 2 ounces.

City of Athens posts draft budget presentation

The City of Athens posted a short slide presentation on its website this week highlighting its budget process.

It announced the presentation on its Facebook page, saying: “After weeks of preparation, the City Council has provided direction to City staff regarding next year’s budget. The budget theme this year is “Core Services”. Visit the City’s website at http://athenstexas.us/ for a brief preview of what’s included in the proposed budget, and what will be discussed at council meetings over the course of the next several weeks.”

Hensarling holds town hall meeting in Athens

Congressman Jeb Hensarling hosted a town hall meeting Thursday afternoon at the Henderson County Senior Citizens Center in Athens and drew a large crowd, particularly considering it was the middle of the afternoon on a weekday.

In promoting the meeting, the Congressman said it would be “to give an update on actions taken by the House of Representatives and hear from the residents of Henderson County about the issues that are important to them.”

Hensarling spoke for more than an hour and I was recording until the battery on my phone gave out. So above is most of the Congressman’s town hall meeting.
