Obituary: Ruby Lucille (Lucy) Amos

Amos Obit PhotoFuneral services for Ruby Lucille (Lucy) Amos, 70 of Athens are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday Sept. 7, 2015 at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Jordan officiating.

Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Amos passed away Sept, 4, 2015 in Tyler.

She was born July 31, 1945 in Palestine to Louis G. and Ruth Gibson Alexander. Lucy was raised in the Lufkin area until she was 8 years old and then moved to Houston and a few years later moved to La Marque where she graduated High School, she then went to work at Galveston State Bank. She married Cecil Wayne Amos in March of 1964 and they made their residence in Texas City. In 1978 the family moved to Visalia, California and lived there for many years moving to Athens in 1999. Lucy was a Christian by faith and and loved studying the healing power of the word of God. She loved to cook and cherished her time spent with her grandchildren. I. Support for Law Enforcement

A. Gov. Abbott calls on everyone to support police on day of Deputy Darren Goforth’s funeral

II. City of Athens Tests New Recycling Program

A. A pilot program by the City of Athens, Republic Services and Keep Athens Beautiful aims at increasing recycling and reducing the stress on city streets. Currently, Republic collects trash twice a week and recycling once a week in Athens. Under the program being tested, the schedule will be trash pick-up on Tuesday and recycling on Friday.

III. Young Entrepreneurs Program to Begin

A. This year the chamber will be starting a Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) class. YEA! is a 30-week program available to middle school and high school students wanting to learn how to start a business.

Obituary: Mike Trevino

Trevino, MiguelMike Trevino was born Jan. 10, 1961 in Edinburg, Texas the son of Raul Trevino SR. and Anita Rosales Trevino. He was very active and loved music, playing instruments, spending time at the kid’s activities, and being involved in the band boosters. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved animals and was on the Henderson County Horse Committee. Mike received an Award of Excellence from GM along with the honor of Top Gun in police academy.
