Funeral services for Peggy Hickman, 80, of Athens are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015 at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Athens, Texas with Bro. Robbie Wynn officiating. Graveside services will be held later at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin, Texas.

Over the last several weeks I have had numerous questions regarding the Ag/Timber Tax exemption from several landowners and ag producers. After doing a little research, I contacted the State Comptrollers Office for the following information. Persons claiming the agricultural exemption on their purchases already give their supplier an exemption certificate that includes the Ag/Timber Number. Effective Jan. 1, 2016, the exemption certificate must also include a current expiration date.
Ag/Timber Number holders need to renew their Ag/Timber number before Jan. 1, 2016 in order to get a current expiration date. Glenn Hegar, the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts will send “how to renew” letters directly to persons already registered with us, and we are in the process of updating our website with this information. Leadership Cedar Creek Lake is about to enter its ninth year.
The “Leadership Cedar Creek Lake Class of 2015-16” is forming now, so if you or someone in your organization is interested in being a part of this great program, please let the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce know so they can hold a spot for you.
The purpose of the program is to develop new community leaders and enhance the skills and community awareness of existing leaders, plus teach techniques to become better team players and to form bonds in business, civic and personal dealings. Participants in these classes graduate better prepared to take on the role as members of boards of directors and in elected positions such as city council and school boards.
