Lady Cardinal volleyball player Brianna Salas was named Student-Athlete of the Month at Trinity Valley Community College at the first Cardinal Pride Luncheon of the 2015 fall semester held Monday at Hunan Buffet.

Salas, a 5-9 outside hitter from Fort Worth Chisolm Trail High School, currently leads the Lady Cardinals in kills and serving percentage. Salas, an all-tournament selection at Brookhaven earlier this season, is the team’s floor captain.

GBC ready for National Night Out

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 6-8 p.m., Gun Barrel City will welcome all of its neighborhoods throughout the city to join forces with thousands of other communities nationwide for the 32nd Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event. According to Linda Rankin, National Night Out Local Chairman, this year the Gun Barrel City Property Owners Associations from several neighborhoods will be on hand at Gun Barrel City Park Pavilion to discuss their neighborhood crime problems and assist the citizens in finding out what is going on in their part of the community. Suggestions on how to fight crime will be a key topic.

From 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 6, residents in neighborhoods throughout Gun Barrel City are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Obituary: Charline Johnson

Johnson, CharlineFuneral services for Charline Johnson, 90, of Murchison are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015 at Central Baptist Church with Brother Glenn Hohmann and Pastor Shawn Spencer officiating. Interment will follow at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas.

Athens FFA – Brownsboro FFA Truck Drive Challenge

Both the Athens FFA and Brownsboro FFA chapters, in conjunction with Elder Dodge, will be having a “The Next Crop” Ram Truck Ride and Drive event on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The two chapters will be in direct competition for the number of test drives taken.

For each test drive that is taken in the name of either FFA, a $20 donation will be made to that local chapter.

Come out, support FFA members, and test drive a Ram Truck.
