Obituary: David Wayne Ellis

dad (2)Funeral services for David Wayne Ellis will be Saturday, Sept. 26 , 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Cross Roads, Texas with Bro. Frank Upchurch officiating.

David was born Nov. 7, 1961 in Carroll, Iowa to Donald Leroy and Laura Rose Ellis. He passed away on September 23, 2015 in Donie, TX.

He was an avid 42 domino player, and enjoyed playing horseshoes, hunting, and anything outdoors. He worked at the Wal Mart Distribution Center in Tucker, TX for 23 years. Continue reading “Obituary: David Wayne Ellis”

Black History Committee to host Multi-Cultural Extravaganza

The Henderson County Black History Committee will host a Multi-Cultural Extravaganza for its last fundraiser of 2015.

The event will be held at the Malakoff Community Center (503 Terry St.) on Saturday, Oct. 3, starting at 6 p.m.

This event will detail the heritage of Native Americans, African Americans, Latino, Irish, British, etc., to help the communities understand the beauty of America. We need your talent!

Come and enjoy as well as learning more about each others heritage.

Around the Town: Loretta cleans up some odds and ends

Not a whole lot of new stuff happening in Loretta World this week, so I’ll just try to catch you up on some stuff I’ve already been talking about.

Bingo, our little blind dog that went wandering, who was returned to us by the kindness of neighbors we didn’t even know, is doing fine. Larry and Martha Samples were the real heroes in his rescue, going out looking for him after he was lost for the second time, and then taking him to the vet and giving him much tlc until we finally reunited. I sent Martha a copy of my column about the whole traumatic adventure, as well as a copy of Bingo’s picture that was posted on Henderson County Now. She sent me a really nice letter back saying how much she enjoyed Bingo’s stay with them, and that she was going to put his picture in her album. The Samples are great people. Time running out to buy raffle ticket for golf cart

The Athens Rotary Golf Tournament is just 10 days away. Oct. 5 is also the drawing for an EZGO Golf Cart and a selection of golf cart covers. This tournament and raffle are the primary fund raiser for our scholarship fund for local students. There are only 150 tickets they are $50 each or 3 for $130.
