A few people asked me what all the fire trucks this afternoon near Malakoff and Cross Roads were about, so I reached out to Henderson County Fire Marshal Shane Renberg.

Renberg said there was a 25-acre grass fire off State Highway 59 near Cross Roads that took the County Fire Marshal’s Department and fire departments from Trinidad, Caney City, Eustace, Payne Springs, Tool, a department from Anderson County and the Texas Forestry Service to extinguish.

Renberg said the fire is now out except for some minor hot spots.

He said the cause of the fire was a cigarette butt thrown into a ditch.

City of Trinidad Boil Water Notice

The City of Trinidad posted the following notice on its Facebook page about 2:30 p.m. Monday:

Due to conditions, which have occurred recently in the water system (break in 8” water line), the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the system to notify all of the City of Trinidad’s water customers to boil their water prior to consumption.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, water system officials will notify you.

If you have questions regarding this matter you may contact Gene Burns, Water Plant Operator, at 903-778-2724 or City Hall, 903-778-2525.
