AISD financial status ‘very positive,’ says auditor

The financial report was a good one at the recent Athens ISD Board of Trustees meeting. J.W. Lambright of Smith, Lambright & Associates, reported the results of his firm’s independent, annual audit of the school district’s finances for the year ended June 30, 2015.

“Your financial status as far as cash and fund balance is very positive,” Lambright told the board. “We did not have any negative comments on anything we looked at. … You demonstrate good budget management and a good budget process.”

TVCC Cardinals ready to open basketball season Friday in Plano

Unfamiliar faces will attempt to take the men’s basketball team at Trinity Valley Community College back to what has become a familiar place.

As the 11th-ranked Cardinals open the season Friday in the annual College College Classic in Plano, the goal is to see the season reach the NJCAA tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., for a third straight year.

To do so, fourth-year coach Kris Baumann will rely on a team of newcomers. Only 6-8 Houston sophomore Melvin Swift returns from last year’s 28-5 squad that went 17-2 in Region XIV Conference play.

Bring on the Spring: Lady Cardinal softball team finishes fall season

It’s on to the spring season for the Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinal softball team.

The Lady Cardinals wrapped up the fall exhibition season last weekend, finishing with a 9-11 mark, largely against four-year universities/colleges.

Ashley Johnston, the only coach in the history of the college’s softball program since it began in the fall of 2008, said the tougher schedule was by design.

“We had a much more challenging schedule this fall,” Johnston said. “We wanted to test our kids and see how they would handle adversity. I believe after seeing what we did this fall that we will definitely compete this spring.”

Nick Webb presented Child Advocacy Center award

Nick Webb, Investigator with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, received the Child Advocacy Center Multi-disciplinary Team Member of the Year Award. The award was presented to Webb on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015 during a multi-disciplinary team meeting.

The Henderson County Multi-disciplinary Team is a collaborative group of all law enforcement agencies, victim services groups, Child Protective Services, Prosecution and other organizations that work on child abuse cases. The team meets monthly to discuss and improve the investigation and prosecution of crimes against children in Henderson County and to ensure that the victims of these crimes are offered the services they need.
