15th Session of North Texas Conference held in Dallas

This was the theme for the 15th Session of the North Texas Conference held September 26-29 in Dallas, Texas with Rev. Dr. C. Dennis Williams and Smith Chapel A. M. E. Church family hosting. Bethel A. M. E. Church in Dallas; under the leadership of Rev. Darrell Caldwell held the opening and closing services.

Presiding Prelate The Rt. Rev. Vashti Murphy McKenzie and her husband Dr. Stan McKenzie addressed the congregation with this opening statement.

Road Buzz: TxDOT Update for Week of Oct. 8

TxDOT (Athens) Maintenance plans to conduct base repairs on SH 31E in Brownsboro. A second crew will perform edge work on Loop 7. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control at both locations.

Henderson County construction projects updates:

SH 31 Overlay Project

  • Limits: From FM 3204 east to 0.5 miles west of FM 315 in Chandler
  • Contractor: Big Creek Construction
  • Cost: $2.7 million
  • Anticipated Completion Date: Fall 2018

Ongoing work includes backfilling the pavement edges, working on guard fence, and preparing for surface hot mix. Expect daily lane closures. Watch for construction traffic exiting and merging throughout the project limits. The project consists of base repairs, mill and inlay, seal coat, surface hot mix, guardrail upgrades, and the installation of signs and pavement markings.
