NWS issues Tornado Watch, Flood Warning

TORNADO WATCH

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Henderson County until 6 p.m. this evening.

FLOOD WARNING

In addition, the Flood Warning continues with the Trinity River At Trinidad affecting Henderson and Navarro counties. At 9 a.m. the Trinity River in Trinidad was at 33.92 feet. Flood stage is 33 feet.

Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. The river will continue rising to a crest near 34 feet by Wednesday evening then begin falling but remain above flood stage.

Do not drive cars through flooded areas. Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

10 Observations from the Hornets 62-24 win over Life Waxahachie

ATHENS — The Athens Hornets opened up district play Friday night with an impressive 62-24 win over the Life Waxahachie Mustangs. The Hornets exploded in the second quarter to stretch a 13-10 lead to 41-16 at the half.

Athens improves to 3-2, 1-0 with the win.

Grand Marshal named for Brownsboro Pioneer Day Parade; Vendors sought

The Brownsboro Pioneer Days Festival is proud to announce the Parade Marshal as Tim Brown. Brown is the great-great-great-grandson of John “Red” Brown who founded Brownsboro and was a pioneer in the founding of Henderson County. Red Brown and his wife, Athens, moved to Texas from Alabama and owned 640 acres in the Brownsboro area.

Tim is thrilled to represent his roots. Brown has supported the community and has attended Brownsboro football game. Tim’s family lineage includes a teacher, a judge, a Confederate Captain and a Speaker of the House for the State of Texas.

Obituary: Millie ‘Jadie’ Johnson

A celebration of the life of Millie “Jadie” Johnson will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2018 at Lakeland House Assisted Living in Athens, Texas with Chaplain Lynette Solomon officiating.

On October 7, 2018 Millie “Jadie” Meeks Johnson went home to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 91, after a 10-year journey with Alzheimer’s.
